Thornberry Animal Sanctuary - The Residents

Dogs

A message from the kennels

Thornberry Animal Sanctuary rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes hundereds of dogs every year.
We have a non-destruction policy which makes us a popular choice with people who feel they can no longer cope with their dog or who circumstances have changed.
We receive many calls per day demanding us to take a dog and if not the dog will either be dumped or destroyed.

With so many dogs on our waiting list to come in, we are desperate to find permanent, loving homes for the dogs in our care and by doing so we can then try to help as many dogs that we can.

As soon as we rehome a dog another is waiting to fill his kennel.

BUT PLEASE REMEMBER A DOG IS A LIFE LONG COMMITMENT AND A DECISION TO REHOME A DOG SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY. DOGS NEED YEARLY VACCINATIONS, WORMING, REGULAR FLEA TREATMENT,GOOD NUTRITION, VETERINARY CARE AND PLENTY OF STIMULATION, LOVE AND EXCERCISE.

We have a neutering policy and all our dogs are neutered either before or after adoption. All our Dogs are microchipped and fully vaccinated.

Many of our dogs are with us through no fault of their own below is a list of popular reasons for them being with us:
  • "Children Allergic"
  • "Having a baby"
  • "Developed Asthma"
  • "Started full time work"
  • "Got him as a cute puppy, now he is too big"
  • "Got him for the kids and they are now bored with him"
  • "Sheds hair all the time"
  • "Moving Abroad"
  • "Moving into a flat"
  • "My new boyfriend dislikes dogs"
  • "We have had him 8 years but we now have a new puppy"
  • "Marriage break-up - neither of us can have her"
PLEASE CONSIDER ADOPTING A THORNBERRY DOG THEY ALL DESERVE A SECOND CHANCE.

Thank you

Goodbye to Our Tyson

We are very sad to say that, after a short illness, dear old Tyson the retired guard dog is now with his beloved May. He had a long fulfilled life with us for 14 years, and was the longest-serving guard dog. After losing his beloved May, he retired down to the bungalow where he had a new lease of life and plenty of cuddles and love, along with the company of the other guard dogs. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him - especially the staff. We have had Tyson cremated and he is now back at the sanctuary where he belongs. God bless Old Boy.

Tilly Bassett

Tilly came to the sanctuary as her owners could no longer keep her. Her owners found it hard and upsetting to cope with Tilly, who is profoundly deaf with a severe medical condition. Tilly was severely mal-nourished due to her condition and because of her deafness suffered behavioura problems. Since being at the sanctuary it has been found that Tilly has a pancreatic disorder which requires daily medication for the rest of her life, without it she will quickly become emaciated with constant, chronic diarrhoea. Behind the scenes at Thornberry we have many dedicated volunteers who look after sick and needy animals in their own homes and offer a life line to animals that cannot be rehomed. One such volunteer has dedicated her life to looking after Tilly, who, because of her behavioural problems and deafness cannot be left alone. The medical costs for Tilly are around £100 per month. Could you help us by offering sponsership for Tilly? For further information please contact Julie Brown or Linda Napper in the kennels. Thank you

** Tilly Bassett can be sponsored, please click here if you wish to sponsor. **
