Thornberry Animal Sanctuary - Take a virtual tour around the Sanctuary

... coming soon. A virtual video tour of the Sanctuary.

This is a short tour of our premises. As our motto is "For the neglected we care" You can expect to find a variety of creatures that have found safety and love here.

Through the main gates we have a small area from which we sell items to raise funds, these funds are crucial in keeping our gates open. We sell lots of things that are kindly donated by the public and our weekly sales are very popular with visitors.

Firstly we have our resident pigs. They are very popular here at the Sanctuary. This lady is called Wilma, brought here as a little piglet she was very nervous. Badly treated by some callous youths when a kind person stepped in and rescued her. To Thornberry she came and has stayed. She's grown quite a lot as you can see.

Here to our right is the Sanctuary's main reception area and the Kennels. Just pop in here and there is always someone on hand to help or advise you. Here in the main office it is always a hive of activity, answering the telephone, doing all the admin for the adoption of the animals and answering questions from members of the public.

On either side of the main door are dogs who are waiting for their new FOREVER homes. Our kennels offer four star accommodation for our dogs. During the day they have outdoor pens and they have an inside pen with central heating and double glazing during the evening. It is hard to believe how we survived without the new kennel block.

Even with our 30 kennels, we always have a massive waiting list of dogs desperate to come here. As soon as a new loving home is found for one dog, thankfully we can offer a kennel for another. Sadly there are too many dogs desperately wanting to come in.

We also have an Aviary, Ferret House and Chipmunk House.

Down the yard on the left is the BARN - it is one of the oldest buildings on the site. Massively helping towards our fund-raising here you will find lots of little curios, pottery, jewelery, jigsaws, books, bric-a-brac clothes, shoes, plus many household items. All the money raised from the sale of items in the Barn go directly to help our animals at Thornberry.

We also have a cafe on site which is open only at the Weekends. Opening times are 1pm-3pm on Saturdays and 9am-3pm on Sundays.

Within the sanctuary we have the necessary isolation unit. A building separated into two parts. One for puppies and the other for kittens. Here the utmost care is given to the animals who are giving birth and all the new arrivals. It is a sad fact that when some people realise that their animals are pregnant they can be found dumped outside the Thornberry Animal Sanctuary gate regardless of the weather - or the busy road outside. We have had animals tied here throughout the cold winter nights - some who were not tied up well enough and escaped onto the road. The animals are often in a bad state of neglect. Sometimes puppies are abandoned at the gates. Many times this has happened but all have been taken good care of, receiving veterinary care where necessary and nursed until they are well again.

The final part of the tour is to the Cattery. Inside here are not only the cats who are waiting for adoption we find the cats who permanently reside here.

Here we can see a member of the Cattery staff who is showing some people the cats who are available for adoption.

The cats look so comfortable in here - snug in their baskets - but as we all know cats - there is no place like a warm fire and your lap to cuddle up in.

We hope you have enjoyed your visit to Thornberry Animal Sanctuary. If you would like to visit us, we are open from 11.00am - 3.00pm 7 Days per week

Thankfully when there is so much badness and cruelty in the world, there are also so many lovely people to mend the cruelty and repair the shattered animals left behind.

However not all animals that are cared for by the Sanctuary live here. We have around 60 horses out on pastures at our stables - visits here are by appointment but there are always plenty of horses and ponies available for adoption.
